feelings and fears

feelings and fears long since gone
come back as quick as one small notion
the essence of the things faded into yesterday
one glance at a passer-by and... "Hey! Isn't
that 'so-an-so'... I think it's... no..."
our mind plays tricks and we wonder why
the scent of something familiar, old taste-buds recall
a place to remember or a shiver that wants to forget
habits and beliefs tried and true
just childhood ideals going out of their way
to mock us from a safe distance
freeze frame on "remember when"
is it possible we could still be there?
visitors of another time?
never really leaving
no need to go back
we are there
in our heart
and mind
